Sedation

IT’S TIME TO MAKE PEACE WITH DENTISTRY AND CREATE THE SMILE YOU DESERVE. SEDATION DENTISTRY CAN HELP!

Anxiety makes it difficult to achieve the smile of your dreams. However, sedation dentistry with an experienced dentist can change your life.

People of all ages can experience unpleasant feelings about the dentist. We strive to make your visits both effective and relaxing with dental sedation.

At our Mint Dental offices, we provide patient luxuries and entertainment along with sedation so that you can always have a great experience. If there’s a procedure you want or need, we can complete it without stressing you out or making you uncomfortable.

Nitrous Oxide

You may have heard of nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas,” but what is it?

Nitrous oxide is mixed with oxygen, and then administered through a breathing mask. Within just a few moments of breathing the nitrous oxide, the patient feels completely relaxed.

Nitrous oxide will not make you lose consciousness, but it will reduce your awareness and put you at ease. You can receive the treatment you need and then walk right out the door, because with nitrous oxide, there are no lasting effects!

Nitrous oxide is safe for everyone, even children.

Our experienced dentists and team are committed to your smile, oral health and comfort. We provide personalized dentistry and want you to leave our office feeling like the best version of yourself.

Oral Conscious Sedation

If you want something a little stronger than laughing gas, oral conscious sedation might be right for you. Prior to your procedure, our dentist will prescribe you a sedative medication that you can take shortly before your appointment.

Although you will remain awake, this sedation is moderate, so we suggest you bring a family member or friend to drive you home. The effects of oral conscious sedation will allow you to have a completely stress-free dental experience, yet its effects will typically only last a few hours

IV Sedation

We hear all the time from patients, “I want to be asleep and remember nothing.” If you are thinking the same thing, well then IV sedation is the option for you. Our team of CRNAs will focus on you and your comfort while the doctor will focus on your treatment needs.

Once again, you will need a friend or family member to take you home after the appointment, and hopefully they do not record you!!! If fear of the dentist is holding you back from receiving the dental treatment that you need, please reach out for a free sedation consult now.

Common Questions About Dental Sedation

  • Is dental sedation safe?

Dental sedation is generally safe when administered by trained professionals following proper protocols. Your dentist will evaluate your medical history, discuss any potential risks, and monitor you closely during the procedure to ensure your safety.

  • Will I be unconscious during dental sedation?

The level of consciousness varies depending on the type of sedation used. With nitrous oxide and oral sedatives, you will be in a relaxed state but remain conscious and responsive. IV sedation can range from moderate to deep sedation, while general anesthesia renders you completely unconscious.

  • How long does the effect of dental sedation last?

The duration of sedation depends on the type used and individual factors. Nitrous oxide wears off quickly, allowing you to resume normal activities shortly after the procedure. Oral sedatives may have a longer-lasting effect, requiring some downtime. IV sedation and general anesthesia will take longer to wear off, and you may need someone to accompany you home after the appointment.

  • Can anyone receive dental sedation?

Most individuals can receive dental sedation, but there are considerations based on medical history, age, and overall health. Your dentist will assess your eligibility and discuss any contraindications with you.

  • Will I feel any pain during dental sedation?

Dental sedation helps minimize pain and discomfort during dental procedures. Local anesthesia is often used in conjunction with sedation to ensure a pain-free experience.
